Spicy Tofu Biryani

Ingredients:

  • Turmeric 1/4 Teaspoons.

  •  Salt To Taste.

  • Ginger garlic paste 1 Tablespoons.

  • Cumin powder 1 Teaspoons.

  • Coriander powder 1 Tablespoons.

  • Red chilly powder 2 Tablespoons.

  • Onions-2 numbers

  • Golden fried onions 150 Grams.

  • Star anise 3 Numbers.

  • Bay leaf 3 Numbers.

  • Basmati rice 500 Grams

  • Tofu cubes

  •  Yogurt 1 Cup

  • Coriander chopped 1 Bunch

  • Mint chopped 1 Bunch

  • Green chilly 5 Numbers

  • Oil 1/2 Cup

  • Lime juice 2 Tablespoons.

  • Spices-

    • Pepper corn 6 Numbers.

    • Shahi jeera 1 Teaspoons

    • Cardamom 6 Numbers

    • Cloves 3 Numbers

    • Cinnamon sticks 2 Numbers

 

Method:

  • First make a powder of all the spices

  • Take a bowl add Tofu pieces add chilly powder, spices powder mix, ginger garlic paste, turmeric, salt, coriander powder, curd, chopped mint leaves, coriander leaves, green chilly, lime juice, oil, and mix it well

  • Put it in the refrigerator over night

  • Soak Basmathi Rice for 1 hour

  • Mean while, Grind 2 onions into a paste

  • Remove a few marinated tofu pieces aside and deep fry them in oil till brown.

  • Heat oil in a pan add star anise, onion paste and cook till it looses its raw flavor, add the rest marinated tofu and cook well. Take care that the tofu pieces do not smash.

  • For the rice, Heat water in a vessel and let it come to a boil

  • Add oil, salt, Shahi jeera, bay leaf and add the soaked rice

  • Cook the rice till 80% add layer of Cooked Tofu  and then this layer of rice.

  • Sprinkle fried onions, and add dissolved saffron strands in milk , then add ghee (optional)

  • Close the lid and put something heavy so that the water does not evaporate out . First cook it on high for first 4-5 minutes then reduce the flame to low, use a griddle under this for even heat transfer.

  • And cook it for 25 to 30 min in low flame and switch off the flame

  •  Never mix the biryani just check it removing the top rice and checking the bottom of the vessel for burnt marks.

  • Garnish with fried tofu pieces and coriander and some fried onions

  • Tastes good with raitha, mirch ka salan, you can also try our potato cocunut milk curry recipe with it.

  • Serve hot with lemon and onions
